9Five had the opportunity to build their retail space and headquarters in high-end mall with an attractive rent rate, and we worked closely with the owner operators Aaron Amerine & Mike Meltcalf to design a space that allowed the greatest level of impact for the lowest level of cost. The retail space (front of house) boasts clean lines and simple finishes, and the back of house is laid out for logistical flow and functionality, serving both their online business and retail storefronts.
The main challenge we had to overcome was the pressure of the building and fire departments to modify the space in ways that didn’t serve our clients’ needs or available resources. In the end, we were able to appropriately challenge and circumvent over $10,000 in plan check corrections.
